It’s no secret that there are tons of people who are deathly afraid of going to the dentist. While some have an extreme anxiety concerning pain, others understand that they have nothing to worry about but still cannot overcome their uncontrollable fears. These people suffer from dental phobia. Dental phobia refers to the irrational fear of dentists and dental procedures. While that may sound odd to some people, the dentist in Palatine says it is much more common than one might think.

 

A California dentist is using a device that gives good vibrations to patients receiving dental care, reports the Pleasanton Weekly. Dr. Foroud Hakim of San Ramon, Calif., uses the dental vibe to calm patients who are receiving injections. Hakim will appear on the television show "The Doctors" in April to promote the device, which was invented by Dr. Steven Goldberg.

"(The dental vibe) delivers a high frequency vibration and you put it on the injection site," Hakim said to the Pleasanton Weekly. "When certain nerves are stimulated with a vibration impulse, those nerves work a little faster going to the brain and scramble the pain receptors."  Patients are also less likely to notice when they receive the injection because the nerves are being stimulated by the dental vibe.
